American Heart Association Wall Street 3M

Let me first start by saying the official race weather report was 87 degrees, with 57% humidity. And that’s at 6:45 p.m., after the pavement’s had all day to get nice and scorching. They had fire hoses spraying into the air at two points, and the mini-showers were more than welcome. Hello, summer running!

Chip Time: 37:25Average Pace: 12:29 / mileOverall Place: 4,609 of 5,063Gender Place: 2,164 of 2,507Division Place: 630 of 687 in females 25-29

This was probably my slowest race yet, and I’m fine with that. I didn’t intend to really try and race in that kind of heat. I walked when I needed to and picked up the pace when I felt I could. (I was originally supposed to run with the roommate, but she dropped out last minute because of an illness.)

All in all, not a bad race considering the conditions. My Nike+ chip clocked me at an 8:20/mile pace at the finish line, which I’m pretty sure is wrong. The canyons of the Financial District and the West Side esplanade are both very narrow, so there was no room to speed up or pass people, even if I’d had the energy to do so.
