Eighth Annual Run as One 4-Miler

Well, I survived! And I didn’t come in dead last (though I’m damn close)! As promised, I coughed (and even hocked a loogie or two) through the JPMorgan Chase Run as One 4-Miler this morning in Central Park. Above, left to right, is me, Kate (my roommate’s coworker), and my roommate, Caroline. There were two other girls who started with us, but we couldn’t find them at the finish. :(

Chip Time: 49:45Average Pace: 12:26 / mileOverall Place: 6,276 of 6,712Gender Place: 3,120 of 3,433Division Place: 888 of 950 in females 25-29

Obviously I didn’t come away with a stellar time because I was sick and haven’t run in two weeks; I’m more proud of myself for getting out there and doing it. As you’ll see from the graph, I walked a lot:

It basically consisted of me outwitting myself the entire time, grumbling about how I wished I’d brought my iPod (the race rules said headphones were “strongly discouraged”) and of course I could walk up this hill because I’d be less tired if I did! As penance after a lovely Greek brunch, the roommate and I walked about 2.25 miles home.

I’m thinking I need to change up my training plan again because I don’t think intervals are working for me. Maybe I need to power through my three- and four-mile runs without walking, since that’s always my weakness come race day. That may mean a little less structure for now, but hopefully I’ll figure it out by the time the Red Hook 5K rolls around on Memorial Day!
